The Gokyo wetlands extend to altitudes of around 4,950 metres (16,240 feet) above sea level (asl). They are located in Nepal's Sagarmatha National Park and are on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance.
In Mount Qomolangma (Everest) National Nature Preserve in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China, the highest nature reserve area in the world, wetland meadows occur at elevations up to 4,900 metres (16,076 feet) asl. About 700 kilometres (434 miles) to the the north-west in Lhari County, Nagqu, on the Tibetan Plateau in China lies the Maidika. This wetland meadow also extends to an altitude of circa 4,900 metres asl and supports 6,000–10,000 migratory birds each year, including the endangered black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis).
