Sonic's been on many platforms over the years, ranging from his roots on the Sega Genesis in 1991's Sonic the Hedgehog all the way to the Nintendo Switch in 2017's Sonic Mania - but he's the first one to star in a videogame on a popcorn machine! On the 13th of April 1993 Sega released the Segasonic Popcorn Shop, a vending machine with an interactive video game to help you 'make' the popcorn by thwarting Eggman's plans. It provided three flavours too: Salt, Butter and Curry. No chilli dogs sadly!

A Super Mario World popcorn machine was released in the same year - though its release date is hard to confirm, it lacks a videogame element and instead uses a roulette wheel game with LEDs.

Sonic Mania actually references the existence of this too, with a SegaSonic Popcorn Shop present in Studiopolis Zone Act 1.
