The T20 International (T20I) career of opening batter Suzie Bates (New Zealand) had yielded 4,584 runs as of 23 November 2024. Not only is she more than 1,000 runs ahead of any other female cricketer, she has also outscored India’s Rohit Sharma (4,231), the leading T20I batter in the men’s game, albeit in 17 more innings than Sharma over the same period (2007–24). She took the overall title on 6 July 2024.
Highlights of Bates’ 171-match (168-innings) T20I career, scoring at an average of 29.38 run per innings, include a top score of 124 not out (vs. South Africa on 20 June 2018), 28 fifties, 34 sixes and, in her most recent outing, the Women’s T20 World Cup final against South Africa on 20 October 2024, when she was finally able to get her hands on the trophy, at the ninth attempt, having played in all nine editions of the T20 World Cup since 2009. Other achievements in her T20I career include 59 wickets, 90 catches (more than any other woman) and 66 matches as captain.
Bates is also the most capped female player in international cricket, breaking Mithali Raj’s record of 333 matches at the Women’s T20 World Cup final in the UAE on 20 October 2024. As of 29 October 2024, Bates had extended her record to 337 international matches (171 T20Is and 166 ODIs).
Among other female cricketers, India’s Harmanpreet Kaur (3,576) and Smriti Mandhana (3,568) are ranked second and third, respectively, in total career runs.
