Northern Districts batsmen Joe Carter and Brett Hampton scored 43 runs in a single over, batting against Central Districts (all New Zealand) bowler Willem Ludick (South Africa) during a domestic Ford Trophy match at Seddon Park in Hamilton, New Zealand, on 7 November 2018. The eight-ball over featured six sixes, a four, a single and two no-balls.

The previous record for a “List A” match (One-Day Internationals and domestic limited-overs contests) was 39, by Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club against Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier Division in Mirpur, Bangladesh, on 30 September 2013. The unfortunate bowler was Alauddin Babu.

In a Shell Trophy (first-class) match between Wellington and Canterbury on 20 February 1990, Wellington’s Bert Vance conceded 77 runs in one over. Only the second ball of his first 17 deliveries was legitimate. It was part of an attempt to contrive a result on the final day of a match Wellington needed to win to secure the title. After much confusion, the match was drawn.

Hampton hit 4-6 (no-ball)-6(no-ball)-6-1 before Carter rounded off the over with 6-6-6.

Carter (102 not out) and Hampton’s (95) 178-run sixth-wicket partnership in 21 overs took Northern Districts to 313 for 7 from 50 overs. Ludick took one wicket but conceded 85 runs from 10 overs. Central Districts replied with 288 for 9.
