When Cloud confronts the final boss in Final Fantasy VII, his nemesis Sephiroth, we hear the very first use of vocal music in the Final Fantasy series. In reference to the one-winged motif of the villain in his Safer Sephiroth form, the title of the piece is One Winged Angel, and is distinctive for its ominous Carl Orff-like characteristics, reminiscent of the opening sections of Carmina Burana. Chilling One Winged Angel, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, has since become one of the most requested pieces performed at Final Fantasy orchestral concerts.
