Shingo Kunieda (Japan) won his 28th wheelchair singles title at Wimbledon on 10 July 2022. The 38-year-old right-hander had previously won the Australian Open in 2007-11, 2013-15, 2018, 2020 and 2022 (11 titles), the French Open in 2007-10, 2014-15, 2018 and 2022 (8 titles) and the US Open in 2007, 2009-11, 2014-15 and 2020-21 (8 titles).

Kunieda’s triumph at Wimbledon – his first singles crown at SW19 – enabled him to become the first man to complete a “Career Grand Slam” (winning all four majors), a “Career Golden Slam” (winning all four majors and Paralympic gold, in 2008, 2012 and 2021) and a “Career Super Slam” (winning all four majors, Paralympic gold and the year-end Wheelchair Tennis Masters event, in 2012-14). In total as of 10 July 2022, Kunieda had won 50 Grand Slam titles across singles and doubles, with his 22nd doubles win coming alongside Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez at Wimbledon on 9 July 2022. Female players Esther Vergeer (21) and Diede de Groot (15) trail Kunieda for the most wheelchair singles titles won. Remarkably, no other man has won more than five singles titles at the four majors combined.
