Alizé Cornet (France) overhauled Ai Sugiyama’s long-standing record of 62 consecutive Grand Slam singles appearances (1994–2009) when she lined up for her 63rd tournament in a row at the 2022 US Open. Cornet, who reached her first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final at Melbourne Park in Australia in 2022, two days after her 32nd birthday, kicked off her long sequence of appearances at the 2007 Australian Open. Despite hinting at retirement after eclipsing Sugiyama’s mark, Cornet extended her run to 64 majors when she took on 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in the first round of the 2023 Australian Open. She lost the match 5–7, 2–6.
The overall record belongs to Feliciano López (Spain), with 79 consecutive Grand Slam appearances in 2002–22.
Fernando Verdasco (67), Andreas Seppi (66) and Roger Federer (65) are the only other players with a longer unbroken run of major outings than Cornet. Cornet’s career total of 66 Grand Slam appearances (2005 French Open to 2023 Australian Open) puts her eighth on the list of women who have played the most major tournaments. The USA's Venus Williams (91) and Serena Williams (81) lead the way.
