Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus took seven wickets for eight runs in four overs (4-1-8-7) in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia B Qualifier against China at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 26 July 2023. To date (28 July 2025), the right-arm medium-pacer is the only man to take seven wickets in a T20 International (T20I), and is one of only three men to have claimed seven wickets in an innings in all professional T20 cricket. Remarkably, all seven wickets were clean bowled as China collapsed from 12 for 0 after four overs to 20 for 9 after 8.5 overs in the face of Idrus’ inswingers masterclass.

Colin Ackermann (7 for 18, playing for Leicestershire against the Bears in the UK’s Vitality Blast on 7 Aug 2019) and Taskin Ahmed (7 for 19, playing for Durbar Rajshahi against Dhaka Capital in the Bangladesh Premier League on 2 January 2025) are the only men other than Syazrul Idrus to take seven wickets in a professional T20 match. Therefore, Idrus is also the player with the best bowling figures in T20 history (by wickets taken and runs conceded). Idrus was the second-fastest man to 50 wickets in T20Is, getting there in 25 matches. He is behind only Botswana’s Dhruvkumar Maisuria (22 matches). Syazrul’s 33-match T20I career to date (2019-23) has yielded 51 wickets at an average of 13.45 runs per wicket.
