Left-arm spinner Sonam Yeshey (Bhutan) produced the first-ever eight-wicket haul in T20 International (T20I) competition – and all professional male and female T20 matches, international or otherwise – playing against Myanmar at Gelephu International Cricket Ground in Bhutan on 26 December 2025. Yeshey took wickets with the first, second and fourth balls of his first over and never looked back, dishing out three golden ducks and snapping up one victim bowled, two caught and bowled, one lbw and four caught to finish with eight wickets for seven runs in four overs (4-1-7-8). With support from teammate Anand Mongar (2 for 3), the stunned visitors collapsed from 21 without loss to 45 all out within the first 10 overs of their reply, in pursuit of Bhutan’s modest 127 for 9.

Six players – Frederique Overdijk (7 for 3 for Netherlands Women vs. France on 26 August 2021), Alison Stocks (7 for 3 for Argentina Women vs. Peru on 14 October 2022), Syazrul Idrus (7 for 8 for Malaysia Men vs. China on 26 July 2023), Rohmalia Rohmalia (7 for 0 for Indonesia Women vs. Mongolia on 24 April 2024), Samanthi Dunukedeniya (7 for 15 for Cyprus Women vs. Czech Republic on 2 May 2025) and Ali Dawood (7 for 19 for Bahrain Men vs. Bhutan on 11 December 2025) – had all taken seven wickets in a single T20I before Yeshey, 22, upped the ante with eight in Gelephu. Seven wickets also previously stood as the record in all professional T20 matches, achieved by Colin Ackermann (7 for 18) and Taskin Ahmed (7 for 19) in the men’s game, and by four women in domestic competition.
