Zhongyang Dajie (Central Street) in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, extends from the Songhua River Flood Control Monument in the north to Jingwei Street in the south and has been pedestrianized since 1997. The 1,210-m (3,969-ft 9-in) stretch from Youyi Road to Jingwei Street is bustling with shops, making Zhongyang Dajie the world’s longest pedestrianized shopping street.
Constructed in 1898 by the Russians and lined with many Art Nouveau, Classical and other European-style buildings, it was called Kitaiskaia ulitsa (Chinese Street) until it took its Chinese name in the 1920s. The full length of Central Street is 1,450 m (4,757 ft 2 in).
