Take a hike Nathan Drake, slink away Solid Snake, because the PlayStation exclusive character with the most successful trilogy of games, as of 8 October 2018, is none other than Crash Bandicoot. According to VGChartz, Activision's trilogy had sold 21.53 million copies across its first three entries: 1996's Crash Bandicoot (6.82 million), 1997's Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (7.58 million) and 1998's Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (7.13 million). By way of comparison, the first three Uncharted titles managed to shift 18.55 million copies, while Metal Gear Solid 1-3 managed 16.31 million sales.

Owing to complicated ownership, Crash Bandicoot was a PlayStation exclusive from 1996-2000. After 2000 the ownership rights fell to a combination of Vivendi Universal Games (2001-2008) and Sierra Entertainment (2004–2008), before landing with Activision (2008–present). Crash Bandicoot therefore became multi-platform after 2000, appearing on Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo platforms.
