Most degree-awarding higher-education institutions (country)

The country with the most degree-awarding higher education institutions is the United States, which has 3,011 institutions offering 4-year undergraduate degrees as of 2016. There are a further 1,616 institutions that offer 2-year associates degrees.

While it has a much larger student body, China's higher education system is more centralised than that of the United States, with a relatively small number of very large universities. There are 1,237 institutions offering 4-year bachelor's degree programs in China, and another 1,359 "Higher Vocational Colleges". The situation in India is similar, with a mere 799 universities overseeing a vast system of thousands of satellite colleges and remote campuses.
