Rashid Khan (Afghanistan, b. 20 September 1998) had taken 176 international wickets - 110 in One-Day Internationals (ODI), 64 in Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) and two in his only Test match - before turning 20 in September 2018.

Khan’s 110 ODI and 64 T20I wickets are comfortably records for a teenager in each format. In Test matches, Waqar Younis (Pakistan, b. 16 November 1971) and Daniel Vettori (New Zealand, b. 27 January 1979) lead the way with, respectively, 55 and 54 wickets before reaching their 20th birthdays.

Waqar Younis is the only other cricketer to take at least 100 international wickets as a teenager, with 125 scalps.

Khan celebrated his 20th birthday by being named player of the match in an Asia Cup clash with Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 20 September 2018. He took two wickets for 13 runs in nine overs, ran out an opposing batsmen and scored 57 not out with the bat.

After helping Afghanistan to a thrilling tie against India in the Asia Cup on 25 September 2018, taking the final Indian wicket with the scores level, Khan took his tally of post-teenage wickets to eight – and with it an ever-growing reputation as one of the most potent spin bowlers in the world.

Khan made his international debut for Afghanistan in an ODI against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on 18 October 2015 – eight days before making his T20I bow against the same opposition.
