ReTuna Återbruksgalleria in Eskilstuna, Sweden, opened on 28 August 2015. It is the world’s first shopping mall dedicated to repaired, recycled and upcycled goods. Residents deposit discarded items, which are then refurbished in specialist workshops before being resold as furniture, computers, audio equipment, clothes, toys, bikes, and gardening and building materials. Operated by the local municipality, the centre also benefits the local economy by creating 50 repair and retail jobs, and providing space for private start-ups and local artisans.
