At UFC 227 on 4 August 2018, Olympic gold medallist Henry Cejudo (USA) defeated Demetrious Johnson for the UFC Flyweight Championship. Cejudo beat Johnson – who had recorded a UFC-record 11 consecutive title defences – by split decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, USA. Cejudo won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the men’s freestyle wrestling 55 kg category.

Johnson had previously defeated Cejudo via a first-round knockout in 2016.
