The oldest bread is 14,400 years old, and was discovered by the University of Copenhagen Archaeological Research Group (Denmark) in the Black Desert, Jordan. The research was discussed in the journal PNAS in an article published on 16 July 2018.

Little is known about the origin of bread breaking, but this discovery has extended the earliest known evidence by 5,000 years.

The recipe consists of flour made from wild wheat/barley, dried pulp roots of wild plants that grow in water e.g. sedges. These were mixed together with water to create a dough and then baked on hot stones.
