On 2 June 2018, fuelled by a No.1 album (Love Yourself: Tear) and a Top 10 single (“Fake Love”), BTS (South Korea) debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Artist 100 chart – the first K-pop act to reach the summit of the magazine’s all-genre countdown.

BTS climbed to No.1 from No.4 in their 85th chart week. The group had previously stalled at No.2 behind The Weeknd on 14 April 2018.

BTS locked down the No.1 spot ahead of Post Malone (No.2), Drake (No.3), Five Finger Death Punch (No.4) and Imagine Dragons (No.5).

The Artist 100 chart was inaugurated on 19 July 2014. BTS were the 65th different act to crown the chart, the most successful being Taylor Swift (36 weeks at No.1) and Drake (29 weeks at No.1, as of 28 July 2018).

“The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.”

In the same week (2 June 2018), BTS also set records for the first K-pop act to reach No.1 on the US albums chart (with Love Yourself: Tear) and the first K-pop group to reach the Top 10 on the US singles chart (with “Fake Love”).
