According to the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED), Haiti suffered 5.52 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants from natural disasters in 2016 (the last year for which complete figures are available as of February 2018). The vast majority of these deaths were caused by storms, notably Hurricane Matthew, a category-5 storm that inflicted widespread damage and resulted in 546 known fatalities.
The five countries that saw the most deaths per 100,000 inhabitants from natural disasters in 2016 were: Haiti (5.52); Fuji (5.12); Ecuador (4.19); Korea (DPR) (2.42); and Zimbabwe (1.72).
