Approximately $5.5 billion (£3.8 million) worth of damage was caused by a snow storm that traversed the entire east coast of the USA on 11–14 March 1993. Around 300 people died in this monumental snow system, which was described by one meteorologist as “a storm with the heart of a blizzard and the soul of a hurricane”.
