In Civilization IV (2K Games, 2005) a space race victory is achieved by building a spaceship and sending it to Alpha Centauri. Most players take thousands of in-game years to accomplish this, but on 22 March 2018, Civ IV expert “WastinTime” achieved it during the in-game year of 90 CE. He first launched the spaceship in the in-game year of 210 BCE (2,166 years before the human race actually launched the first rocket into space, in 1957) – the craft taking 299 years to reach its far-away destination. Even more impressive is the fact that this was achieved on the game’s hardest “Deity” difficulty setting. His successful space race took 482 hours of play-time to achieve. "WastinTime” documented his accomplishment on the Civ Fanatics forum (https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/lets-play-deity-bc-space-strategies-from-a-10-year-veteran.574724/#post-14435175). This goes into great detail on the strategies used to maximise his civilization’s productivity and scientific breakthroughs.
“WastinTime's" achievement was reported by major gaming websites and newspapers across the world.
