The longest distance swum by a robot on a single set of AA batteries is 3.002 km (1.865 miles), achieved by MR. EVOLTA NEO built by Panasonic Corporation (Japan) at Itsukushima Shrine in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan, on 10 November 2018.

In celebration of Panasonic's 100th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the record-holding battery brand EVOLTA, the company attempted to achieve this record with a tiny yet powerful robot that operates on and shares the same name with the battery. The robot is 17 cm tall and is attached on the surfboard that is 35 cm long and 6 cm wide. It operates on 2 AA batteries.

The swim route is 2.5 km crossing from the mainland to Itsukushima, where the landmark Torii gate of the World Heritage site Itsukushima Shrine stands. The successful second journey took 3 hr 22 min 34 sec.
