The first parachute jump from a drone was carried out by BASE-jumper Ingus Augstkalns (Latvia) on 12 May 2017 near the village of Māļi, Latvia. Ingus was released from a height of 330 m (1,082 ft) by a heavy-lift multirotor built by drone-maker Aerones (Latvia).

The Aerones drone is a 28-rotor machine designed for heavy lift applications such as search and rescue, autonomous delivery and firefighting. Its 28 motors (arranged into 14 pusher-puller nacelles) give it a payload capacity of 200 kg (440 lb) – easily enough to lift a person.
