On 14 October 2017, the Playhouse Theatre in Derry, Northern Ireland, became the first venue to stage an official Minecraft-themed performance. Called Playcraft Live, the project was commissioned by Space and Arts Council England, an arts body dedicated to building digital audiences. With a script written by Norwich-based novelist Alex Scarrow (author of Time Riders and Elle Quin) the show combined live performance at The Playhouse with a virtual performance within Minecraft itself.
