On 1 December 2015, superstar YouTuber CaptainSparklez demonstrated a working cell network in Minecraft created by communication technology company Verizon. Together with advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy and design agency BlockWorks, Verizon had built a Minecraft mobile phone that makes video calls, sends texts and surfs the web. Even more incredible, the in-game device can also communicate with real world friends via a bespoke web application, Boxel, that converts images into blocks.
