The greatest margin of victory in an Olympic skeleton event is 1.63 seconds, achieved by Yun Sung-bin (South Korea) on 16 February 2018 at the Alpensia Sliding Centre near Pyeongchang, South Korea. The home favourite posted the fastest time on all four runs, setting a track record of 50.02 seconds on his final attempt. The total time for his runs was 3:20.55. Sung-bin eclipsed the previous greatest margin of victory of 1.4 seconds, set in 1948 by Nino Bibbia.
Most skeleton events are decided by tenths or hundreds of a second. Yun Sung-bin’s was the largest margin of victory in any Olympic sliding race – luge, bobsled or skeleton – in 46 years.
