The youngest athlete to win a snowboarding medal is Redmond “Red” Gerard (USA, b. 29 June 2000), who took gold in the men’s slopestyle at the 2018 Winter Olympics on 11 February aged 17 years 227 days. Lying in 11th out of 12th place before his third and final run, Gerard produced a nerveless run of 87.16 featuring a backside triple cork 1440 to claim gold.
Gerard became the second-youngest male individual gold medallist at the Winter Olympics, behind ski jumper Toni Nieminen.
