Owlchemy Labs' Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives is the first virtual-reality (VR) videogame to offer a taste for the working life. More of a satire than a 9-to-5 simulation, in fact, the game casts players as an auto mechanic, gourmet chef, store clerk and office worker who must perform a mix of realistic and quirky tasks. The game was released for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on 5 April 2016 (via Steam) and later for the PlayStation VR on 13 October 2016.

The earliest business simulation videogame overall was Railroad Tycoon, developed by Sid Meier in 1990. Its release triggered a multitude of business simulators but it took until 1994's Theme Park for business sims to really take off.
