The videogame Renegade (Taito, 1986) was based on the Japanese arcade hit Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun. As one of the early proponents of the beat-'em-up genre, it was in a position to be innovative and it was notable for introducing the ability to inflict multiple hits on enemies, lending extra realism and upping the challenge.
