Most songs to reference a videogame franchise

As of 24 January 2018, chiptunes artist Raheem "Mega Ran" Jarbo (USA) had released 130 commercially available songs referencing Capcom's Mega Man series of videogames. His first song to reference Mega Man in samples and lyrics was 2007 track "Introduction". Following his initial spate of songs in 2007, Mega Ran was contacted by Capcom – rather than hand him a cease and desist to stop him creating songs based on the Mega Man franchise, Capcom were so impressed by his songs that they granted him full licence to reference any music from Mega Man games.

Mega Man is a 2D run-and-gun platform game by Capcom that was released in 1987.

The series continues to have new releases to this day, with Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 in August 2017 and Mega Man 11 announced for 2018.
