As of 05 March 2020, Fire Emblem: Fates (Intelligent Systems, 2015) had sold 2.94 million copies, according to VGChartz.com.
The series had been considered in decline for some time, up until the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening - which, ironically for a game developed as a swansong to the series, led to its revival instead, selling 2.28 million copies to date, as opposed to its predecessor's 274,000 lifetime figure.
A tactical role-playing game is a game which incorporates RPG elements - such as character backstories that intertwine with the overarching plot, statistics that define their gameplay characteristics, and levelling and equipment systems - and tactical game elements - such as battles being army or squad-based, with strategic positioning and maneuvers being required upon battlefields of varying design.
