According to The Numbers (www.the-numbers.com), Tom Hanks (USA, b. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, 9 July 1956), is the all-time highest-grossing leading star in drama films, based on the cumulative worldwide theatre takings – not adjusted for inflation – of all the 21 drama movies in which he starred in a leading-acting role over his career, with US$4,323,924,637 (£3,147,850,000) taken as of 15 January 2018.

Contributing to this record were the films Forrest Gump ($679,850,637 in 1994), Saving Private Ryan ($485,035,085 in 1998), Cast Away ($427,230,516 in 2000), Catch Me if You Can ($355,612,291 in 2002), Apollo 13 ($334,100,000 in 1995), The Green Mile ($290,701,374 in 1999), You've Got Mail ($250,800,000 in 1998), Sully ($238,552,082 in 2016), Captain Phillips ($220,648,184 in 2013) and The Terminal ($218,673,959 in 2004).
