Highest-grossing leading star for romantic comedy films at the global box office

According to The Numbers (www.the-numbers.com), Julia Roberts (USA, b. Julia Fiona Roberts, 28 October 1967), who rose to stardom after headlining Pretty Woman (1990), remains the all-time highest-grossing leading star for the romantic-comedy genre, based on the cumulative worldwide theatre takings – not adjusted for inflation – of eight romantic comedies in which she starred in a leading acting role over her career, with US$1,651,919,358 (£1,202,610,000) taken as of 15 January 2018.

Hugh Grant, who played Julia Roberts' love interest in Notting Hill, ranks second with $1,037,545,597 (755,342,000) grossed by six romantic comedies in which he starred as leading actor.

Films contributing to this record included Pretty Woman ($432,645,872 in 1990), Notting Hill ($363,728,226 in 1999), Runaway Bride ($310,138,178 in 1999), Valentine's Day ($217,569,328 in 2010), America's Sweethearts ($160,648,493 in 2001), I Love Trouble ($61,947,267 in 1994), Larry Crowne ($61,449,135 in 2011) and Mother’s Day ($43,792,859 in 2016).
