On 31 December 2017, League of Legends (Riot Games, 2009) grinder “Nolife Raphael” hit level 300, as verified by lolnames.gg. Playing primarily as hero character, Jinx, "Nolife" gathered experience points as quickly as possible by playing against AI bots on the small three-on-three Twisted Treeline map. By doing so he was able to maximise the number of matches he could compete in and win (most League of Legends maps are larger five-on-five maps that take longer to complete). As of the time of writing, "Nolife Raphael" had moved on to level 321 and remained the only League of Legends player to have surpassed level 300 – the nearest player was "Toucan Celeste" on level 263.
In order to gather experience points faster, "Nolife Raphael" bought two experience boosts from the in-game store using real money. Even so, a League of Legends enthusiast on Reddit has estimated that it takes about 793,152 experience points to reach level 300 from level 30 (the level cap before the old level cap was removed). The Reddit user calculated that it would take approximately 2,509 games against bots to achieve this, about 334 hours not counting loading screens.
A Reddit user posted the question as to why anyone would subject themselves to endless bot games. Raphael responded, writing “at the beginning it went boring, but time for time it feels good having not toxic peopel [sic] in there xD”.
