The single largest discrete mangrove forest is the Sundarbans, which spreads across parts of India and Bangladesh in the region of the Bay of Bengal. It is approximately 945,850 ha (2,337,246 acres) – or 9,458 km2 (3,651 sq mi) – in area. Tigers (Panthera tigris) are the most well-known but rare denizens of the Sundarbans. The Sundarbans is part of the largest delta in the world, the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna.
