The lowest elapsed time in a 1,000 ft NRHA race in the Funny Car class is 3.793 seconds, by Robert Hight (USA) on 18 August 2017 at the NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota, USA. It was the first sub-3.8-second run in a Funny Car. Hight set 7 of the 10 fastest ever times in the class during the 2017 season, as well as the highest speed ever recorded in NHRA – 339.87 mph (546.96 km/h).
In 2008, the National Hot Rod Association shortened the length of Top Fuel and Funny Car runs from the traditional quarter-mile (402-m) distance to 1,000 ft (305 m) in the aftermath of a fatal crash involving driver Scott Kalitta.
