The fastest prototype diesel powered boat attained 277.51 km/h (172.44 mph) and was achieved by Fabio Buzzi (Italy), on Lake Como, near Lecco, Italy, on 7 March 2018.
The boat was designed and built by FB Design in Italy and piloted by Fabio Buzzi - the company founder and owner. The boat is a three point hydroplane measuring 8.14 m long, made with pre-impregnated carbon fibre, weighing 2,500 kg with an F16 fighter jet canopy for pilot protection, five point harness and air supply.
The engine used was a Modified Agricultural Diesel Engine (an FPT Cursor 16) with a capacity of 16,000 cc, 6 cylinder common rail fuel injection twin VGT turbo unit producing 1,700 hp at 2,650 rpm with a propeller speed of 10,000 rpm.
