The largest construction ship in the world is the Pioneering Spirit. The ship’s hull has an overall length of 382 m (1,253 ft) and a breadth of 124 m (407 ft), and its gross tonnage is 403,342. It was built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, and cost approximately US$3bn (£2.27bn). It is owned by Dutch-Swiss offshore construction firm Allseas and was launched on 26 January 2013, entering service in August 2016. The vessel is used for super-heavy marine construction tasks. For example, in April 2017 it was used to decommission a North Sea oil rig owned by Shell, removing the 24,500-tonne "topside" of the rig in a single lift.
