On 2 December 2017, GoldenEye 007 (Nintendo) speed-runner Karl Jobst flew through the game's opening Dam stage in 52 seconds. This broke Bryan Bosshardt's long-standing 15-year record time of 53 seconds, which he set on 27 September 2002. Although matched on many occasions it was suspected that it was impossible to better Bosshardt's time until Jobst's record-breaking attempt. The attempt was verified by The Elite Rankings, a website that specializes in GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark speed-running.

GoldenEye 007 speed-runners strafe continuously and adjust first-person viewpoint at a specific angle in order to pick up speed. There are also opportunities to get up to three "speed boosts" if shot in the back by the guards – something that's notoriously difficult to achieve on Agent difficulty (the easiest difficulty) owing to the guards' poor aim. For this record, Jobst achieved all three boosts.
