Legendary jazz musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk (1935–1977) had a unique talent: he could play three saxophones simultaneously. Using a tenor saxophone, a manzello saxophone (similar to a soprano sax) and a stritch saxophone (a straight alto sax), Kirk was able to play three-part melodies using just his mouth and his two hands. By making use of the fundamental tuning of each of the three different saxophones, Kirk could bounce the active melodies from one sax to another while maintaining discrete sounds from each.
