Riding for Alpecin–Deceuninck, van der Poel launched a 60-km solo attack that saw him come home in 5 hours 25 minutes 58 seconds, three minutes clear of the field. It was his second consecutive win of the race.
First held in 1896, Paris-Roubaix is one of cycling’s oldest one-day road races and follows a c. 257-kilometre (159-mile) course between the French capital and the Belgium border. Known as the “Hell of the North”, the classic is famed for its cobbled streets and testing weather conditions.
