Helmsman Peter Burling (New Zealand, b. 1 January 1991) guided the Emirates Team New Zealand to a 7–1 victory over Oracle Team USA in the America’s Cup on 26 June 2017 aged 26 years 176 days. Opposing helmsman Jimmy Spithill (Australia, b. 28 June 1979) was the previous youngest helmsman to win the Auld Mug, aged 30 years 231 days with BMW Oracle Racing on 14 February 2010.
Burling won Olympic sailing gold in the Men’s 49er class at Rio 2016.
