The Women's World Cup match between England (373 for 5) and South Africa (305 for 9) at the County Ground in Bristol, UK, on 5 July 2017 produced a combined total of 678 runs – an astonishing 101 runs more than the previous highest match aggregate for a women's One-Day International (ODI). England's Tammy Beaumont (148) and Sarah Taylor (147) put on 275 for the second wicket – the second-highest partnership in women's ODI history.
Previous record: 577 runs, by New Zealand (288 for 6) and Australia (289 for 6) at North Sydney Oval, Australia, on 14 December 2012.
The 678 runs were scored in 100 overs (50 overs per side), giving a run rate of 6.78 runs per over.
South Africa's 305 for 9 was the first – and so far only – score of 300 or more by a team batting second in a women's ODI.
South Africa's Lizelle Lee (72), Laura Wolvaardt (67) and Chloe Tryon (54) all cashed in with half-centuries to boost the run aggregate.
Remarkably for a match with so many runs, England's opening bowler Katherine Brunt conceded just 16 runs from her eight overs, including two maidens.
