Since 2005, Chris Gayle (Jamaica) has scored 11,068 runs in 323 Twenty20 matches (316 innings) around the world. The hard-hitting left-hander's tally includes runs in domestic Twenty20 competitions in Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Zimbabwe, plus closer-to-home stints in the Caribbean Premier League and his international career with the West Indies, which had produced 1,589 runs in 55 games (51 innings) as of 4 March 2018.

In the final of the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on 12 December, Gayle's man-of-the-match-winning 146 not out for the Rangpur Riders against the Dhaka Dynamites was the highest score in the competition's history and included 18 sixes – the most sixes by a player in a Twenty20 innings (male).
