Forsaking Dark Souls 3’s traditional mouse/keys combo on PC, US YouTuber "ATwerkingYoshi", aka Louis Hamilton Jr of the “The Super Scrubs”, has completed FromSoftware’s grueling action-RPG on PC with seven alternative control methods. His full list of “weird” controllers include Donkey Konga bongos, steering wheel, retro SNES controller, DJ Hero turntable, Wii-mote and nunchuk motion-controllers, N64 controller and Bass Pro Shop Xbox 360 fishing rod controller. He has also tackled the game with Dance Dance Revolution dance pads, although full video evidence was not available. In addition, the expert gamer has also finished the game with a set of eight bananas, which he’d rigged up a circuit board called Makey Makey using alligator clips, duct tape and wiring. "ATwerkingYoshi" works in videogame development, providing him with the skill-set to modify various controllers for the game.
"ATwerkingYoshi" says that he completed Dark Souls 3 with the dance pad before he had even attempted the game with a regular controller. It took him an epic 44 hours.
His fastest weird controller run to date was achieved with the Bass Pro Shop fishing rod, which took around 4 hours.
As of 26 August 2017, "ATwerkingYoshi" said that he was currently attempting the games Bloodborne and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with similar alternative control methods.
FromSoftware’s Dark Souls franchise is notorious for its steep learning curve and daunting boss fights, which has inspired a subculture of gamers to attempt the game in outrageous ways, from using custom controllers to playing it upside down.
