The most World Athletics Championships gold medals won in an individual event (female) is 5, achieved by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica) in the 100 m in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022.
Fraser-Pryce won her fifth world championship 100 m title on 17 July 2022 at the age of 35, in a championship record time of 10.67 seconds. She moved one clear of shot putter Valerie Adams, long jumper Brittney Reese, hammer thrower Anita Włodarczyk and Liu Hong in the 20 km walk. Only one athlete has earned more world championship golds in an individual event – Sergei Bubka, in the men’s pole vault.
