The World Drone Prix took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 11–12 March 2016 with a prize pool of $1,000,000 (£698,778). The first prize of $250,000 (£174,695) was won by 15-year-old British drone racer Luke "Banni" Bannister. He and his team, Tornado X-Blades Banni-UK, beat local team Dubai Dronetek in the final. Racers all wore VR-style goggles, enabling them to pilot their drones around the illuminated outdoor course from a first-person view.
