On 8 July 1990, Argentina’s Pedro Monzon became the first player to be sent off in a FIFA World Cup Final when he was dismissed for a challenge on Germany’s Jurgen Klinsmann in the 65th minute of the game. Argentina would finish the game with nine men following the 87th-minute dismissal of Gustavo Dezotti; Germany would emerge as 1–0 winners.
