West Germany and France contested the first ever FIFA World Cup penalty shoot-out in the semi-finals of the 1982 World Cup on 8 July at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville, Spain. With the score deadlocked at 3–3 after extra-time, it was Germany who triumphed from the spot, winning the shoot-out 5–4.
