A Eusébio-inspired Portugal recovered from a 3–0 deficit against North Korea in their 1966 FIFA World Cup quarter-final to run out 5–3 winners at Goodison Park in Liverpool, UK. The “Black Pearl” scored four times, including two penalties. This equalled the comeback made by Austria at the 1954 FIFA World Cup during their quarter-final match against Switzerland – 3–0 down after 19 minutes, the Austrians were level after 27 minutes and went on to win 7–5 at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland.
