The inaugural FIFA World Cup was held in Uruguay on 13–30 July 1930. Thirteen teams qualified for the tournament, with 18 matches played overall. Hosts Uruguay – the 1928 Olympic football champions – went on to claim the trophy, beating Argentina 4–2 in the final at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo on 30 July.
