Luis Monti played in two successive FIFA World Cup Finals for different nations: Argentina in 1930 and Italy in 1934, earning a winner’s medal in the latter. The midfielder – known as Doble Ancho (“Double Wide”) as a result of his imposing physique – had emigrated to Italy in 1931, and was one of a number of foreign-born players of Italian descent to earn a call-up from national manager Vittorio Pozzo.
